Calvin Coolidge gave the first presidential address to be carried on radio; ‘Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer’ was seen for the first time on NBC; ‘Arthur Godfrey’s Talent Scouts,’ already a hit on radio, became a simulcast on CBS-TV; psychologist Joyce Brothers (pictured) won the top prize on CBS-TV’s ‘$64,000 Question’; and Moose Jaw’s pioneer radio station CHAB moved to its current dial position at 800 KHz.
Obits include Toronto news anchor Mark Dailey, actor Don Ameche, puppeteer Burr Tillstrom of Kukla, Fran and Olly, and ‘Aunt Bee’ of ‘The Andy Griffith Show,’ Frances Bavier.

Recent restructuring moves at TSN Radio have killed the nightly Scott Rintoul sports talk show But his energetic on-air talent has been put to work as co-host on Canucks’ pre-game and post-game broadcasts, replacing the fired Jeff Patterson.

Obits Dec. 5th include Canadians Art Hallman and Wilf Carter, Roone Arledge of ABC News, and jazz giant Dave Brubeck.

Former BC Premier Bill Bennett Dies at 83, Alzheimer’s victim
Bennett succeeded his father, former premier W.A.C. Bennett as leader of the B.C. Social Credit Party in 1973 and was elected premier in 1975. He went on to win re-election in 1979 and 1983, retiring undefeated in 1986.
Actor Robert Loggia Dies at 85
He was nominated for an Emmy in 1989 for his portrayal of FBI agent Nick Mancuso in the series “Mancuso FBI” and again in 2000 for his guest star role in “Malcolm in the Middle.” He also portrayed a violent mobster in HBO's "The Sopranos."
