IT WAS JUNE 20th … when American Bandstand celebrated its 20th anniversary with a 90-minute prime time ABC-TV special. Paul Anka, Neil Diamond, Frankie Avalon, Paul Revere & the Raiders, Little Richard, Three Dog Night, and Cheech & Chong were among the performers appearing…. When the last of the original CBC-TV-produced Don Messer’s Jubilee shows aired, following a Saturday night hockey game… When “Price is Right” model Janice Pennington was knocked out when she was struck by a TV camera during a taping of the show at CBS Television City in Los Angeles… …and when Howard Stern (pictured) began his 30-minute TV show, a digest version of his morning radio show, on the E! cable network. Calabro, who lives in Seattle, has deep ties to the Northwest. He spent 21 years working in radio and television for the Seattle SuperSonics and notably turned down the chance to move to Oklahoma City when the team fled the Northwest in 2008.

I count myself lucky to have known, earned the respect, and learned from CKNW veterans like Tom Mark, Terry Bell, and Philip Till. Although I did have to endure some of those infamous Tom Mark emails. It wasn't easy to see those guys go but I count myself lucky for having been given the time to work beside them
