Comedian Fred Allen, actors Don Ameche and Clint Eastwood, Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham, and CBC Radio talk host Vicki Gabereau were born on May 31st. Winnipeg TV station CBWT signed on for the first time, and the first episode of The Seinfeld Chronicles aired. Jim Hendrix, Katie Couric and the Dave Clark Five made entertainment news, and Mel Cooper was permitted to buy controlling interest in Victoria's C-FAX 1070. NBC's Night Court aired for the final time, while Jean Stapleton, Arlene Francis, CBS correspondent Terry Drinkwater and singer Art Lund checked out on this date.
