As host of CBC Radio 2’s dreamy late-night music show The Signal, Laurie has been helping listeners make a transition to sleeptime for the past decade, telling stories and playing songs that drift through the Canadian ether from 10 to midnight, six nights a week.

For a recent issue of Radio Ink Magazine, we recruited two of the best programming minds in the business, Lee Abrams and Randy Michaels, to answer this question: “What are the greatest Top 40 stations of all time?” We also asked them not to collaborate with each other in any way or discuss their top choices before submitting their lists.

IT WAS AUG. 9th … when radio brought word of a 2nd atomic bomb explosion that would lead to Japan’s surrender & the end of World War II… When the TV program “Ready Steady Go!” premiered on ITV in the UK. The show gave early exposure to such music luminaries as Bob Dylan and The Rolling Stones… When two popular Toronto deejays John Spragge and Bob MacAdorey were fired from radio station CHUM… ..and when, following the enormous success of the “Motown 25” TV special two years earlier, NBC debuted the ill-fated “Motown Revue” variety series hosted by Smokey Robinson, which lasted only five weeks. The Tiffany network will make CBS All Access available in Canada in early 2018. It’s the first international foray for its three-year-old streaming service, which CBS estimates will have 4 million subscribers by the end of 2017.
