Most days, any mention of Orlando, Florida makes one immediately think about vacation fun, sun and theme parks. Today, a mass shooting at a popular gay nightclub has temporarily tarnished that image and sent the city — and the nation — into mourning.
As word of the shooting first spread in the wee small hours of Sunday (6/12), the team at Cox Media Group/Orlando assembled quickly to cover the breaking story. “I don’t think you’re ever fully prepared for this kind of event to happen in your local community, but I’m proud of the way that our team quickly came together across all seven of our Cox Media Group radio brands here in Orlando,” Operations Manager Drew Anderssen (right) toldNTS MediaOnline Today. “Our personalities, reporters and talk show hosts, along with all of our content leaders, have a high degree of communication with each other all the time. Our incredible teams at News 96.5 WDBO, Star 94.5, Power 95.3, 98.9 WMMO, K92.3, ESPN 580, and107.3 Solo Exitos came together in a way I haven’t seen many others do. We all joined forces to do a day-long simulcast – where every brand’s respective audiences were represented in one of America’s most diverse markets.”
