Pattison to Buy Two Brandon Radio Stations from Westman

Pattison Media has announced a deal to buy Westman Communications’ two radio stations in Brandon, Manitoba.

No purchase price was announced for the sale of “Q Country 91.5” (CKLQ-FM/91.5 and CKLQ/880) and “94.7 Star FM” (CKLF-FM).

Pattison also owns two stations in Winnipeg. The combination of the two markets will allow Pattison to “super serve listeners and clients not only in Brandon but western and south-western Manitoba,” according to the news release.

CKLQ and CKLF compete with Bell Media’s CKX-FM/96.1 and CKXA-FM/101.1. Like Pattison, Bell also has radio stations in Winnipeg.

The news release quotes Westman interim President and CEO Bud Keys as saying that Westman was “pleased by [Pattison’s] strong history of providing local radio, supporting their communities, and maintaining a high level of local employment.”

“These are all important things to WCG, and Pattison’s values echo that. We feel confident that these stations will be in excellent hands,” Keys said.

The deal will take Westman out of the broadcasting industry. The cooperative also provides internet, TV, and phone service in southwestern Manitoba, including local WCGtv cable channels.
