“Real” Roy Hennessy passes

From face book, Ron Taylor reports that Roy Hennessy passed away peacefully at 8:30 pm (PDT) on Tuesday. Roy turned 80 on February 20th.

So, so sad to report the news from Ron Taylor that old friend Roy Hennessy is gone after suffering a stroke last week.
Roy lit up the Vancouver airwaves at CKLG and CFOX, also making his mark in Edmonton, Winnipeg, Calgary and Toronto. It was so good to have him take part in our 2019 C-FUN tribute. He made a special trip to “photobomb” our C-FUN Good Guys shoot and spend time with his Vancouver radio friends.
“Real Roy” was a consummate radio pro, and he’ll leave a huge hole in our bro

Got a note from Marty Forbes that old friend “Real” Roy Hennessy has had a stroke. He’s recovering at Toronto Western Hospital‘s Stroke Centre and we’re all pulling for him. Get well soon, Roy!

  1. This is very sad. I have a lot of love and respect for Roy. He was a friend, a mentor and along with Daryl B convinced me in 1970 that moving to Vancouver would be good for my career. My time at LG 73 was some of the best radio of my life and I will always cherish those memories. Sending good thoughts to Roy…one of the original CKLG Boss Jocks.

  2. The first interest I took in top forty radio came when Roy was in PM drive at CKLG in the early sixties. When he moved to AM drive, his creative juices were cranked to 11. A favorite ‘Real Roy’ bit was the ongoing saga of his country cousin “Hank” who moved from the prairies to Vancouver. You inspired me, and motivated me to enter the biz. Thank you for the good times Roy. Rest easy.

  3. At 16 I dreamed of being a DJ. I was a gopher at CKLG. Roy encouraged me to audition. 2 all night shows later I landed the 9- midnite shift thanks to Roy’s mentorship and Frank taking a chance.

    I’ll never forget him.
