  1. Good luck to barbara on her next journey indeed. I dont think shes leaving much of anything though (thats just my thing), but a spineless run radio format scene commercial or otherwise that seems more appropriate in the cheapo fluffy softball ironic conformist hipster zone. A faded shadow of what it was here in vancouver not that long ago. Newer broadcasters and format of the modern era where music wise correctness and aural pablum and the in order for things to get better you have to get better mantra uttered by jim rome, oprah among others and sticking to the script and pushing the envelope and going with the dominant ethnicities is in and suggesting the more complicated stuff of true nostalgia, underrated music content and less relevant ethnicities here in these parts is put deservedly in the penalty box.

  2. Looks like lg 104.3 is officially done for good; it might change to a rhythmic contemporary format sooner than later, maybe around the labour day weekend (barbara worked on the beat when it was of that genre). What else can I say?

  3. Barbara Beam was tough and a professional as a host. This market keeps shrinking for on-air host jobs. She may resurface in another market. Regarding 104.3, it probably needs a change, think they are down to two or three hosts on a weekly basis. Miss two stations doing real news, some would say we dont even have one, but I still like NW.

  4. Radio Duck, I think Bob left on his own years ago. He wanted to go back to Ontario, where he and wife are from. Bob had a good sense of humour but also had a dark side.

  5. Regarding 104.3 A Hip-Hop station at this stage in the game will FAIL. You can look at Seattles KUBE 93 and the ratings they are getting. Todays rap music is terrible and the youth actually know it. It would be an absolute disaster to go Hip Hop. If this were the 90’s it would have worked. We still need a proper oldies station. Or if anyone knew what the youth are into, you need to look at Youtube. Lo-Fi aka College Music stations have exploded! It’s what all the youth are talking about and listening too. Lo_fi is instrumental Hip-Hop blended with samples and Jazzy hooks. You need to take a listen. The artists are all independent, so that won’t work on an FM freq, but that is where the youth now are. Perhaps if 104.3 went classic top 40 or a throwback station like Seattles urban Hot 103.7, then that may work.

  6. Actually as for 104.3, its simonas station, her world, she can do what she wants. Hip hop all new or otherwise with lo fi nights or a south asian hit music channel with announcements and advertising in english. Lg 104.3 was rightfully terminated for direct cloning jack fm for the most part.

  7. Too bad. There are some really bad DJ’s on JR – that could be replaced the one on the weekends is awful – the new one starting at 9 and we definitely don’t need 3 for the morning show Clay and Karen do just fine on their own
