CNBC has hired former Fox News anchor Shepard Smith to host an evening newscast for the cable news channel.

The News With Shepard Smith will air Monday through Friday from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Eastern time.  Smith will also become CNBC’s chief general news anchor and chief breaking general news anchor.

Smith joins CNBC after spending 23 years at Fox News, where he was most recently the chief news anchor and host of the dayside program Shepard Smith Reporting. He had previously anchored Studio B and The Fox Report. Smith left Fox last October in a surprise move after asking the channel to step down from his role. He had just signed a multiyear deal with Fox in 2018.

At CNBC, Smith’s newscast will be “the perfect bridge between CNBC’s daytime investor-focused news programming and the network’s aspirational business-oriented entertainment programs in primetime,” CNBC chairman Mark Hoffman said in a statement announcing the hire.

  1. Smart move…Shep is one of the best in the business and was way too good for the rah-rah idiocy and propaganda of Fox News.

  2. I consider Shepherd about as fair and balanced as I would see Johnny Depp hanging out with Keith Richards a few years back .

She- should never be allowed to do Hard News, Gia Newscasts are better suited to Saturday Night Live .

Hey, that is sort of what MSNBC want, is it not ?

Might be a good fit after all .

  3. Of course he got a gig at CNBC. Look at who runs it now. A far left woke KID….who has no idea what he is doing. Fox got rid of Shepherd BASH TRUMP ALL DAY Smith for a very good reason. And they have benefited from it.
