Our thanks to Connie Thiessen at Broadcast Dialogue for word that Bailey Nicholson (pictured) is leaving Global News Radio 980 CKNW Vancouver for Rogers’ News 1130 (CKWX).
Nicholson, who has been reporting and anchoring, joined NW in Mar. 2016 as an intern.
Bailey was one of the high points of Drexs late night show. That show when you get past the bizzare intro racket is listeneable because of Drex s supporting cast. On his own he can repeat his premise over and over and over and over and over and over and over………………etc.
Good luck to her at 1130
Word is that she reluctantly took the late night slot. The fill-ons when she has been away consistently make mistakes.
Maybe there she’ll get some writing and reading instruction. Among other things, needs to learn what words and phrases to properly emphasize.
Not a great loss for NW as their bar is not the high for newsreaders and she was an intern probably due for a raise. Might have gotten sick of missing the Skytrain after her shift finished at the Burnaby newsroom.
Bailey was excellent at saying, “THIS IS BAILEY NICHOLSON.”
Bailey has radio potential.
Her ending for her news — “THIS IS BAILEY NICHOLSON ” was excellent.
Bailey does not appear to know the basic rules of English pronunciation. For that reason she probably feels right at home at News1130.
