COUNTRY 105’S DOUG VERONELLY ANNOUNCES
HIS RETIREMENT

CALGARY, August 30, 2016 – Best known for his long admired, award-winning career in country radio, Doug Veronelly is retiring from his morning role as host on Country 105’s The Odd Squad. Veronelly started his radio career in the 1970’s in pop radio before making the move to country where he’s played a vital role in the Calgary country music scene for the past 24 years. A special Farewell to Doug show will later be announced both on-air and online giving listeners a chance to wish him well on Country 105.

“Doug’s open mind, large radio presence, and stability has allowed The Odd Squad to grow into what it is today,” says Phil Kallsen, Program Director, Country 105. “We send a heartfelt thank you to Doug for his many years as part of the Country 105 family and wish him all the best on his retirement.”

As vital members of the community, Veronelly and The Odd Squad regularly volunteer at a number of charity events each year. Most recently, The Odd Squad raised 1.6 million dollars through the station’s Caring for Kids Radiothon which benefits the Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation. The Odd Squad is also a 14-time winner of the Canadian Country Music Association’s Major Market Personality of the Year award and in 2005, Veronelly won the Country Music Association award for International Personality of the Year.

“It’s a bittersweet ending for me. Leaving my radio family is hard but at the same time, I am very happy to be able to spend more quality time with my family at home,” says Doug Veronelly, Co-Host, The Odd Squad. “I thank everyone at Country 105 and all of our listeners for their support and kindness over the last two decades. It’s been a great run.”

  4. In a word, CLASS, great fellow, kind father and husband, talented broadcaster and remarkable philanthropist . Very well respected in the broadcast community and a wit not matched anywhere on the dial. Wishing Doug all the best and beers are in our future on me. I was lucky enough to work with Doug. His family took me in as a starving DJ. Doug is one of the best and his talents on-air are a gift many enjoyed and will miss.

  6. So sorry to hear Doug is not returning to The Odd Squad! Roger is awesome but I have really missed Doug as well! I wish him all the best and hope he enjoys his retirement!

  7. Doug is a kind, generous, very funny man and a real treat to work with. I had that pleasure a few years ago and enjoyed every minute. Tough guy to sit beside at a Flames game is you’re not cheering for the home team! Go ahead – try it – I dare you. Your ribs will hurt for days! Enjoy your well-deserved retirement Doug!

  8. Our colleagues at CFCN and 66-CFR all thought I liked and enjoyed Doug a ton. Fortunate for me it is that I did. I truly hope his retirement are matters of exquisite timing and choice.
(Some of us had extra, premature and unwelcome help.) 🙂
As to an easy retirement, and to paraphrase Doug: “We could get a monkey to do that!”

  9. A big loss for the Calgary radio market. Doug is one of the nicest, most talented people I had the pleasure of doing comedy/performance/content sessions with.

I’m sure Robyn and Dan will miss his positive energy and amazing comedy skills. A real pro and a stellar entertainer.

One of the countries best radio shows! Robyn, Dan, Doug and Phil Kallsen are in a league of their own! Tremendous people who put out an amazing product every day.

All the best in the future Doug!

  10. Thanks all for the kind comments they are much appreciated. I’ve had the great fortune to have pretty good run, I’ll miss it. I won’t miss the 3:45 alarm. If I gave somebody a reason to smile, laugh, cry or think then I hit the mark. RTR it’s time for a new monkey. Thanks again all it has been my great pleasure!
