Winnipeg broadcaster Andrea Slobodian has wrapped up her career in journalism for a new opportunity with the newly-elected Progressive Conservative provincial government.

The veteran news anchor and reporter has accepted a position with Communications and Stakeholder Relations at the Manitoba Legislature. The department was previously known as Cabinet Communications under the former NDP government.

“I’ve had a great run as a broadcaster over the last 15 years and will be forever grateful to the managers and colleagues who gave me opportunities and Manitoba’s awesome viewers for watching,” Slobodian told ChrisD.ca.

“It’s also an exciting time of change in the provincial government, and given my experience reporting on politics over the years, this opportunity is a good fit for the next chapter of my career.”

Slobodian spent nearly the last four years at CTV Winnipeg as a news anchor and producer. Before that, she lent her storytelling knowledge to the TV newsrooms of Sun News Network and the CBC in Calgary, and most notably to locals at Global Winnipeg and Citytv.

She begins with the province at the end of May.
