As our Facebook friends learned over the weekend, the Bay Area radio rumor mill was buzzing that the announcement by Cumulus Media/San Francisco last week, saying that 40-year KGO mid-morning host Ronn Owens was being shuttled to conservative Talk clustermate KSFO, was about to be reversed.
Today, rumors are reality as the company confirms Owens will remain on KGO — albeit in a slightly shortened 10am-noon slot — after what a Cumulus press release called “listener outcry.” Also, as previously predicted, Owens will be preceded by iHeartMedia’s regionally syndicated Armstrong & Getty , who segue to mornings at KGO from crosstown iHM talker KKSF.
Rounding out KGO’s “new generation” local Talk lineup (which officially debuts tomorrow) are: Ethan Bearman, who has previously hosted shows on both KGO and KSFO (noon-2pm); Brian Copeland, who previously hosted a long running Sunday show and weeklyCopeland’s Corner commentaries on KGO (2-4pm); Chip Franklin, who slides up to PM drive (4-7pm) from his current 9am-noon slot; and DreX, who remain in evenings (7-10pm).
In a related news note: Since Ronn Owens will now not be moving to afternoons at KSFO, Westwood One nationally syndicated talker Mark Levin will remain in that station’s 3-6pm time slot.
