The man who was General Sales Manager at The Ocean and KISS FM Victoria has been let go by Rogers management. Don Landels was given his walking papers earlier today. He had been with the Rogers Victoria cluster in various capacities since July of 1993, back when they had just one station in town.
We understand that Landels was the hands-on executive who personally terminated the longtime Ocean 98.5’s morning team of Forbes and Marshall two months ago. Ironic that he himself would get the Rogers golden handshake so soon thereafter.
Similar to Geoff Poulton after the Larry and Willy fiasco.
With Don’s extensive sales background and management skills the transition to another position outside of broadcasting should be relatively easy.
I feel for those who have done nothing but sit behind a microphone their entire working life and now find themselves in their late 40’s/early 50’s out of work. Trust me it is one hell of a bleak job market out there especially in places like beautiful BC for older workers.
