A Winnipeg radio DJ who vanished last week – only to turn up days later in Portage la Prairie – is now facing a string of criminal charges.

Christopher Elwick, also known as “Shecky,” is being held in custody without bail. Court records show he is accused of sexual assault and sexual interference on a minor for alleged incidents which occurred between January 2009 and December 2010.

Elwick, 32, is also charged with possession of child pornography between March 2013 and Sept. 11, 2013.

None of the allegations has been proven and he is presumed innocent.

Elwick had been working for Energy 106 and Power 97 as an on-air personality. He disappeared last Tuesday, and Winnipeg police issued a public alert last Friday saying they were concerned for his well-being. Several members of Winnipeg’s radio community also asked for the public’s help in the search.

Police said Saturday evening he’d had been located safely in Portage. But no other information —such as the fact he was arrested and charged with outstanding offences – was released.
