CHEK Gets Another New General Manager

5

Roy McKenzie

Thanks to Broadcast Dialogue for the news that Roy McKenzie has resigned after about 2 years as Retail Sales Manager for C-FAX and KOOL-FM Victoria (also CTV Vancouver Island).   He will assume his new responsibilities as VP and General Manager of the employee-owned CHEK-TV Victoria on August 1st.

Prior to his move to Victoria and his position with its Bell Media outlets McKenzie had some 20 years in radio sales with CILK and Astral Media in Kelowna.

McKenzie becomes CHEK’s fourth GM in about 17 months.  John Pollard was replaced by Roy Gardner in March 2013; within three months he in turn had been replaced by Bill Pollock.

The Broadcast Dialogue item was posted under the very appropriate heading “Revolving Door.”

  1. It was only 5 years ago that Canwest announced that CHEK would be closing down on 8/31/09, but an employee buyout helped keep CHEK on the air.

  2. Do the employee/owners make any money at CHEK? Does anybody watch this dreadful broadcasting mess, apart from the 5 o’clock news?

  3. The schedule as it is now (other than the infocrapmercials) is by far better than what was on CHEK during its E! period of 2007-09. I’ll take CSI Miami, Bones, Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy over Keeping Up with the Kardashians, E! True Hollywood Story, Fashion Police and The Soup any time.

  4. Tough slog as an independent. Hiring a sales guy GM sounds like growth will be the the focus. With American Idol and Biggest Loser on the fall sked looks like something more than infomercials to watch. To bad the news wasn’t HD.
