Just three years after rebranding as SONiC Radio, 104.9 FM in Vancouver has changed again.

And it’s a throwback in more than one way.

Where once there were alternative and modern rock songs, there are now pop throwbacks, as Rogers Radio launched KiSS Throwback in Vancouver on June 19, 2025. Prior to broadcasting as Sonic, 104.9 FM in Vancouver was the home pop station KiSS Radio.

The new brand has started playing songs like the Corrs’ “Breathless,” “Say You’ll Be There” by the Spice Girls, and Shawn Desman’s “Night Like This.”

“Listen to KiSS Throwbacks for all the hits of the ’90s and 2000s,” reads a Sonic social media post..

The post notes that if people are fans of Sonic they can stream the broadcast out of Edmonton.

  1. Sonic Radio Is Now Done In Vancouver For Good After Nearly Three Years Kiss Return To Vancouver But This Time Throwbacks 90s and 2000s

  2. Finally someone listened to the lost generation and we get a throwback station. Many of my generation have money to spend, and we love our retro radio! Todays music is garbage, and the Vancouver are has TOO MUCH ROCK! They better market this well, cuz many of us gave up on radio, but will be eager to tune into this!!!!

  3. Can we get actual 90’s jingles and LIVE Dj’s like we used to have in Vancouver! If it’s another jukebox of music with no listener interaction then nobody will listen because that is what Spotify is for. We need to be entertained while listening to the music! Put callers on air and joke around with them.

  4. They did resurrect one old jingle…”The switch is on”…Would have been used back in the late ‘90s or early 2000s when Rogers had the KISS CHR brand in both Toronto and Regina. True, the station is voicetracked but tracked very well IMHO with five weekday personalities who have a feel for the format. Bri, the 1:00-4:00 PM host backselled an Alanis Morisette song on Friday explaining how she was in Grade 4 when “Jagged Little Pill” came out, and how it was the soundtrack to her summer that year. Jonny Staub is sounding great in PM drive and makes an effort to hit the post, which sadly has become a lost art in this day and age. Would live hosts be better? Absolutely! But these folks are doing a great job so far with adding relatable personality to the format.

  5. 😆Spice Girls!😆
Those TOO MUCH ROCK stations have one problem…TOO MUCH REPETITION! Whether it’s Rock 101 or CFOX those playlists suck. Also, bring back Psychedelic Sunday on Rock 101 Electric Lunch on CFOX.

    • Me too actually, man. Regarding the 60s 70s show. That way it will certainly be worth while. Songs of substance that a lot were also big mainstream hits.

  6. This station needs a 90’s Reel World jingle package to make it sound complete. Right now it sounds too out of place. Grab one the Zed use to use. I think it was the KDWB package.
