Canada’s oldest continuously operating radio station could have a new owner next year.

Toronto broadcaster Netti P. Ray has applied to the Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) to purchase radio station CKOC (BNN Bloomberg Radio 1150) from Bell Media.

The application also includes the purchase of Hamilton radio station CHAM (Funny 820) and CKWW (AM 580) in Windsor for $445,000.

“I believe AM (radio) still has life left in it,” said Ray who is the chief executive officer of the CINA Radio Group that operates FLOW 98.7 FM in Toronto, CINA 1650 AM in Mississauga, CKIN FM in Montreal and CINA FM in Windsor. “I decided to rescue them and make them viable and prove these stations don’t have to die a premature death.”

Ray noted the CRTC will hear his application on Feb. 8 and if all goes well, he could acquire the stations by April.
