Sky Pilot

Eric Victor Burdon (born 11 May 1941)[3] is an English singer and songwriter. He was previously the lead vocalist of R&B and rock band The Animals and funk band War.[4] He is regarded as one of the British Invasion‘s most distinctive singers with his deep, powerful blues-rock voice. He is also known for his aggressive stage performances.[5]

In 2008, he was ranked 57th in Rolling Stone‘s list of “The 100 Greatest Singers of All Time”.[6]

  1. I played “Sky Pilot” quite a bit back in its day. I was never really sure if it was an indictment of the Vietnam War or targeting military chaplains who sent boys off to die with some false promise while they themselves stayed safely behind or just a description of the reality of war in a particular moment, but I leaned toward the chaplains as they were in the title.

    I am not a religious person by any stretch of the imagination, but 50 years later I wonder how many “sky pilots” had their own crisis in faith because of the role they were playing. I am not giving them all a pass; however it wouldn’t be fair to condemn them all either.
