Opinion: I think it is his curiosity about what is going on in the world, and why it matters, that has kept my dad relevant in his morning radio broadcasts as a financial analyst for more than 38 years

On July 13, my dad, Michael Levy, will sign off from his last morning radio newscast on CKNW News Talk 980.

After being on air for more than 38 years, he has decided it is finally time to hang up his microphone.

For as long as I can remember, morning, midday, and late afternoon radio newscasts have been part of my dad’s daily routine.

His alarm goes off at 5:25 a.m. and he gets up to speed on the business news of the day. He then goes on air to summarize the top stories, explaining their impact on the financial markets, and then proceeds to report the live market quotes. Over the last five years, he has reduced the number of broadcasts he has been doing in a week, but at 79 years old, he still reports three mornings per week. And he does it with the same enthusiasm as he did at 42 years old, when he did his first broadcasts on CJOR.
