Well — at least newspapers are worse off.

In the latest CAREERCAST.COM listing of “worst jobs,” broadcasting doesn’t fare too well. They write, “There has always been controversy about who has the worst job. Is it the person who drives a garbage truck or the waiter in a busy restaurant? While neither or those professions made CAREERCAST.COM’s 28th annual Jobs Rated report’s 10 worst jobs list, Newspaper Reporter, Broadcaster and Pest Control Worker are ranked among the worst jobs of 2016.”

That has to bug radio folks.

“The Jobs Rated report’s methodology analyzes each job’s environment (emotional, physical and hours worked), income (growth potential and salary), outlook (employment growth, income growth potential and unemployment), and 11 stress factors to determine which professions are among the least desirable,” notes the survey. “Declining employment opportunities contribute to the inclusion of many of the 10 worst careers in the 2016 Jobs Rated report. Traditional news media is particularly hard hit. Newspaper Reporter checks in at #200 for a third straight year, but Broadcaster isn’t far behind at #198.”

“The news business has changed drastically over the years, and not in a good way,” said former Broadcaster, and now NEW BRITAIN, CT-based BALDWIN MEDIA PR Pres. ANN BALDWIN. “When people ask me if I miss it, I tell them ‘I feel as if I jumped off of a sinking ship.’”

  1. Placing ‘broadcaster’ and ‘reporter’ at the bottom of their list sure seems to have gotten them a lot of press….somehow. Hmm….

  2. I don’t know too many Happy and fulfilled reporters/broadcasters. Most are working on back up plans and or waiting to get laid-off.

Rough industry to be in right now.
