Former Pt. Alberni, Courtenay, Vancouver Broadcaster George Cowie Dead at 75

George Cowie, veteran West Coast broadcaster passed away Sunday Oct 26 in Port Coquitlam, a victim of cancer. He was 75.

He started his long career in 1956 at CJAV, Port Alberni. In 1960 he helped Billy Brown launch CFCP Courtney. Moved to CFUN Vancouver, 16 years at  CKLG Vancouver where he won many sales awards. Seven years at CKVU-TV.{ now CITY-TV]
Returned to CFCP where  he finished his career.

George and Joyce, his wife of 56 years, moved to Port Coquitlam to be near their grandchildren.

  1. George was a stallward supporter of the Courtenay Rotary Club and instramental in the begining of our used book sale club fundraiser. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family..

  2. I remember George when he came to CJOR…..he was my manager….First thing he said….was the former Manager said we should fire you…..He smiled….and said….I can’t understand why ….A Great Guy…..30 years later i remember George well…..See you in the great radio stations up above George
