Michael Martin Murphey (born March 14, 1945) is an American singer-songwriter best known for writing and performing Western music, country music and popular music.

From 1951 to 1982, bandleader Lawrence Welk hosted his own television show. The Welk orchestra had a number of hits (surprises me!) in the top 25. Including Calcutta reaching #1 in 1961

Yesterday, a long time friend and coworker of mine Dave Ross, (pictured with Jimmy Pattison), lost his battle to lung cancer.

One wonders (at least I do) where would Michael Jackson be in the music world today. He died at the age of 50 in 2009. His recordings still popular with fans everywhere . Billie Jean in 1983 was #1 everywhere.
