John Martyn has today’s almost forgotten track

I’ve been a John Martyn since the first time I heard him and his former wife Beverly on one of those old multi artist samplers labels used to use to intro new acts…over the years it frustrated me a little that he never truly broke through, at least in North America, though many times it seemed like he might come close…as an example, there’s this song which was a showcase for his amazing guitar work and somewhat laconic voice…unfortunately, his only real breakthrough came via another artist when Eric Clapton covered his song May You Never, which I’d known for a few years through David Bradstreet’s live version…John spent much of his time offstage, though, battling alcoholism, and, in fact, much of his time on stage too doing the same, reportedly…before he passed away a couple of years ago diabetes had eaten away at his body and, when he did pass, there was nothing left but the tributes to his talent, and his amazing catalogue of music…

Greg Simpson firmly believes his career in the music industry officially began on March 14, 1965 when a band gave him ten dollars as commission for helping them find a gig. He hasn’t looked back since then and looks forward to celebrating his fiftieth in 2015 with an enormous party paid for by the hundreds of dollars he’s made since then. His career has covered all aspects from radio for many years, and including working for record labels, artists and, since 1992, Canadian Music Week where he programs the radio stream and manages all conference streams and events in real time annually. He also attends half a dozen conferences a year doing research for CMW and is generally accepted as a knowledgeable cat with a few stories to tell. At the root of it all, though, is his undying love for music and musicians.

Great Stuff! Very talented!

Far too many very talented people do not end up with the career they deserve.

Deserved is a hard word to quantify…on a pure musical form of measurement, nothing could be more true, but if one includes the paths one follows in life, some end up where they are destined to be…
