I'm 99.9% sure that Harper will get a majority.

So in the past 2-and-a-half-weeks, have you changed your mind?  When Harper appeared close to a majority the peeps got scared, and the polls have been reflecting a continued downward spiral for the Tories.

This election has basically been a 4-on-1 sausagefest where everyone ganged up on Harper... and not one of the leaders has offered anything of substance. I am extremely disappointed with the lack of strong choices. Because I refuse not to vote, mine will go with the Conservatives because they are the only party that will not panic over the economic downturn, the only party with a realistic plan for Canada and the only party that will not tax us all into oblivion.

The Liberals are arrogant ("we want our Canada back", derisive "do you really want more of this?" crap), disorganised and not at all ready to govern, and they have lied their way through nearly all of this campaign with bluster and negativity. Their ads proclaim that Liberals are "always there for you". Yeah, right. At a time where the world economy is in the tank, I do not want a government that will tax me to death and lie through its teeth, and show contempt for me. That's an inherently Liberal trait. Many of the problems and structural inefficiencies in federal governance now are ones left over from the corrupt Liberal governments that Harper has tried to fix in his time as PM. Sometimes he succeeds, sometimes he fails.

The NDP... well, that goes without saying. My only disappointment will be the inevitability of the Greens coming up with another goose-egg. Even though May has been screechy and sometimes irritating, the Greens deserve something for the effort they've put in.

Even if the thought of Harper and a majority scares you, no other party is prepared to govern, and so I urge you to park your vote with the Tories. If not, do me a favour and avoid voting Liberal.

What's your point, BO? Are you saying I should change my vote? LOL I don't think so. A new government will only make our economy worse... Libs/NDP/Green.. they all want a new "green" tax... So, how is a new "green" tax and billions of dollars in spending going to help our economy? It won't!

Harper is the only one that seems to get it! He's not panicking and not making all these hysterical promises to spend billions of dollars of so called "economic plans" to stable the Canadian economy. Not to mention, if the Liberals/NDP do get elected into power, BC will have two "green" taxes to deal with. Ugh.

I had & have no intention of changing your vote, just your objective prediction as to the results.
My point is that this vote looks to be typically Canadian .. 'on the fence.'    No party will come out a clear winner.

Most of us are pretty happy with what Harper has done so far ... but the threat of his 'hidden agenda' which the bogeymen trot out frequently, means we're not yet willing to give him a clear majority.  In other words, the opposition will retain the power to veto any so-called 'extreme' legislation .. IF they can find a way to work together.

In the US many right-wingers are fearful of seeing both the legislative (congress) and executive (presidency) branches controlled by the same party, namely the Democrats.   Many centrists prefer one branch being in a position to rein in the other.

I don't know so many people buy in to the whole left and right paradigm, vote for the candidate that you agree with the most... not if they are Liberal, Conservative, NDP and etc. It sickens and shocks me how many people just vote for a party because they support the party... support the candidate that suits you and will work for your riding the best not the damn party.

Conservatives will form the next government, who else is there?
Do you want a professor running the country?  Or a Socialist?
Check your files everyone, who is the richest Leader in this contest?
The professor? The Economist? Or Layton?

Who says the Conservatives are the thrifty spenders?  They have spent like drunken sailors the past couple of years.  Despite all of their shortcomings it was Martin and the Liberals who got spending under control and actually managed our economy extremely well.
That being said I don't have a lot of faith in any political party.  They all say what you want to hear during an election campaign and then tell a different story more or less after the vote.
I tend to like Minority Government's because it seems we can keep a short leash on these politicians.  I'm afraid that after Tuesday though we are going to see a Conservative Majority Government by a hair.

Yeah, that's revisionist thnking that's hard to back up.  Might be a reasonable assumption if you overlooked the many millions squandered in Quebec-gate.

Remember too, it was the Liberals that slashed Health care money and inflicted the results on our Provincial governments, and thus, us individually.
Liberals aren't the so-called "spending under control" geniuses they like us to believe.  Anyone can do what they do when they slash Healthcare.
But how many Canadians remember that?

The issue that powers this thread is not IF Harper will be returned.  The question is WHEN he takes power, will it be as head of another minority government.

We just heard yesterday the the World Bank has named Canada's banks as the most stable in the world, and the WTO says Canada will be the best performer next year of ALL the G8 countries BECAUSE of our already-in-place banking laws and regulations - and by staying the course - we will have some turbulence, but WON'T crash. like other banking countries are.

NOW's the time to vote NOT with party preference, but using our heads - what we're doing NOW IS WORKING - not what Jack Layton or Stephane Dion WANT to to.

I make a point of never having allegiance to a politcal party because they might not be the best choice at a given time with different circumstances.  I've voted the political spectrum in my time, and THIS time (Federally) I'm voting Conservative to STAY the course - and Provincially, in May, I'll be votng NDP because the Campbell Liberals are out of touch and out of control.
