I wanted to bring the rock talk onto it's own thread. Let's start again. I was saying after three years AAA will flip mainstream. I suggested Sam Feldman would move AAA to Rock. CFOX has been puttering along for years with no competition the same with CFMI 101.They  don't clash anymore same owner. 101 had treated listeners to a couple of good weekends that expanded the play list this year not the same hum drum Beatles. Vancouver deserves a new  player when it comes to rock.

That idea worked well for X-FM!

XFM failed for a bunch of reasons.

1) 104.9 is cursed by an evil witch.  Voodoo spells should not be discounted in the story.

2) XFM started off ok... but got real scattered.  They played the hits WAY too much and then to counter that, would go into some specialty show that was too maven.  I'm into maven music... but not on Rogers... and Rogers isn't into maven music so... yeah, time to try Clear and see just how low a FM radio station's ratings can go.  If X launched again... it would do better.  Rock music has changed, PPM likes modern rock, CFOX is not as strong as it was back in the day.

There is a chance that AAA delivered right, could survive in Vancouver. In fact, Vancouver is probably the only Canadian city in which AAA could survive. However, its still a risky move, so Modern Rock would be a great backup plan. I'd love to see someone step up to the plate and take either AAA or Modern Rock to an appropriate level. It would take a significant pair of stones, patient management and a little understanding from the bean counters, but it could be done. As added benefit, the battle would be amazing to witness or to fight in...

It's simple.

XFM had no business being in a corporate environment. Being renegade, (or dare I say it after the VP debate last night) "maverick" simply does not work in a sales culture in a building with marble floors and gold plated name plaques.

A rock station needs a run-down building downtown with a staff of rubbies and derelicts. Having the suit-wearing GM to have an office opposite your jock's lounge is a bad idea.

Anyone got 3 million dollars they want to lend me?
