I feel for the poor schlep who had no idea and pulled up to the gates at 12:58 with his 10 bucks in hand.... |

If I was an employee at the Toll you would be waved through. How many get laid off? |

Apparently, the public knew about it before the people working up there knew about it. People were trying to drive thru for nothing and the poor toll operators didn't know what was going on until a man and a woman came up, told them to close down and cash out and they were out of a job - no explanation, no follow-up plans, no nothing, that happened at 12:40pm. Some of the toll booth operators were in tears. |

Does that mean they're not gonna plow it anymore? - or do we have to vote Gordie back in? |

I wonder how this one's going over in Boston Bar tonight? Hell's Gate Airtram etc. While applauding the lifting of the tolls, it will deal Fraser Canyon communities a further economic blow when they can least afford it. Nobody's gonna travel Hwy 1 anymore west of Kamloops. |

At least they (Hell's Gate) have the off season to plan for next year. I wonder about the logistics of pulling this off though. I mean how do you just muster up a demolition project starting on Monday. As far as the employees go they are supposed to be offered other positions in government. Yeah we'll see. |

I'm sure those employees have highly valued and transferrable skills.

I'm sure they do but I talked to one of them today and, for the moment, they are all out of work. |

...and I would suspect a lot more accidents as a result with no more watchdogs at the top. At least the police won't be chasing "toll runners" anymore. |
