From Castanet..... Liz McKinney jumps shipby Kelly HayesCastenet.net Sep 15, 2008 The Juice is tapping into the local talent pool. The Juice (103.9) is one of two radio stations set to launch in Kelowna. Programmer, Jason Mann, says the Juice has persuaded Liz McKinney of Power 104 to jump ship. She will anchor the Juice's morning show along with her sidekick named Moose.
His real name is Trevor Stoyko who is coming from Grand Prairie, Alberta.
McKinney says it was time for a change.
"I'm looking forward to a new challenge. It's an incredible opportunity, one that that I've never been involved with and that is the launching of a brand new station."
The Juice's morning show will be called McKinney and Moose on The Juice.
Power 104 Programming Director, Bob Mills, says McKinney will be missed.
"We wish her the very best."
The MD & PM drive will be handled by Jason Stone.
The Juice's Programming Director, Jason Mann, says having McKinney on board was a real coup.
"I've always been a big fan of Liz McKinney. She's quite a talent."
Mann is still working on a launch date for his new radio station.
The other Kelowna radio station, spearheaded by former Kelowna mayor Walter Gray, is also set to launch very soon. The Juice website: http://www.1039thejuice.com/http://www.castanet.net/. |

Cool - I went to broadcasting college with Trevor Moose - he's gonna be great. What a score to get Jason Stone - one of the hardest working, creative, fun and brightest up and comers - he'll do well as well... |

from the reports we've received, The Juice will play Classic Hits and covers the best of the 80s, 90, and now. Jason Mann was reported to have said the station is targeted specifically for men and women 25-54 years of age, however the format has been described to super serve those between 30-49 who grew to learn and love Top 40 and rock music of the 80's, but the format is kept 'fresh' with the inclusion of compatible music from the 90s and now. |

Hey...you're welcome. When I was MD at Sun-fm in Duncan, an insane amount of music that we were playing was from my own music collection. And when Vista got a new station they would use hard drives from Duncan to load up the station with music. We were all wav not mp3's so it made sense (many of the stations they took over were mp3...a battle I'm very proud to have won). I'm only guessing that practise hasn't changed. If you listen close enough (and if they are still using Duncan's stuff and why wouldn't they?) you may even hear a crackle and pop because some of the really rare cancon stuff came off some of my vinyl (cleaned up as best I could...) I think it's kinda of cool to know that my music collection (and me only wanting wav and not mp3 for on-air) is still having an effect through out Vista. So even if I'm no longer with the company...I'm still there in one way or another. |

AC caught you on Crave today Zane. Good call on the music uploads all those long hours of stepping up the music rotation(library) files will be cranked (Juiced) in Kelowna. I can just imagine all the play on juiced lines coming to K-town. Looks like the two new stations will fight for top spot. 100% Freshly Squeezed. Kelowna's Juice being the wine, is not the first moniker to hit the air. They have one in the UK.
Carl Hughes plays Juice in the UK! http://www.new.facebook.com/profile.php?id=507042128 Juice FM - Liverpool's More Music Station. Music Radio for a Fun, Young Liverpool. Other online stations using the ORANGE flavor style like Vista. I would have gone red. AC says get the right image for Juice, the station could go to the top. They need to create a character voice to make this juice concept fly. The branding must be real with a JUICE character. People in the area will get the connection. Otherwise you are just another FM. Should be interesting to see what they do with it. Can they pull it off? Will it be Kelowna's Flavor radio station? Or will it overflow with no zip? . |

Remember back in the day when the challenge was to introduce new music to your audience? Nowadays, we just trod out the tried and true and call the packaging and the label imaginative. Once in a while, we do introduce a new song, but only after repeated video, tv or commercial exposure.
These are exciting days for radio indeed. |

It is a shame that yet another station has launched without recognizing the importance of having a website from day one!
Vista needs to get that higher on the priority list in their launch plans. Look at the Free-FM site in GP. Still don't have it right and it is well over a year.
With a company that size, they could easily crack a deal with a service if they are incapable of maintaing decent sites with internal people. Isn't Kelowna the IT Slacker capital of Canada? Tons of people writing code in their basements and working cheap. |
