Lots of the same music as what was spinning on Q (Kanye West, Kardinal Offishall, etc) but a lot of Modern Rock/Classic Alternative type stuff in there too (RHCP's, Nirvana, Death Cab For Cutie, etc).
I DJ at a club... and I fire up a similar shit mix. I think the ladies will respond more than the guys. But I guess it'll all be in the mix and presentation.
Andrew & co. did a great job with unveiling this cool and unique format. BUT, I don't expect it to make a big impact after an initial bump in S4. Q94 positioned themselves between HOT and Clear (closer to HOT) and now they've just re-positioned smack in-between HOT and Power. It'll become a strong P2 choice for listeners of those stations but I believe that's about it. All that said, we all agree they had to blow up the Q brand and best of luck CHUM Winnipeg! I would definitely listen A LOT but I'm also a radio guy who likes all kinds of music.
being a P2 station kinda sucks with the old BBMs but maybe when PPM arrives, things like Curve will really show their strength. I agree with the above poster... this sort of format would get a lot of play when the girl and I are driving around.
CHUM Radio Launches First 'Pop Alternative' Station
CHUM Radio welcomed CURVE 94.3 to the Winnipeg airwaves as the new station aired 943 songs in a row across the long holiday weekend.
CURVE 94.3 is described as North America's first Pop Alternative station, representing a merger of the "Pop" and "Alternative" genres to deliver a hip music format for Winnipeg music fans.
September 15 is the date the station will unveil the all-new on-air teams. As well, a web strategy and interactive platform will be rolled out in the coming months.
"We're absolutely thrilled to introduce CURVE 94.3 to Winnipeg," said Andrew Long, Program Director, CURVE 94.3, of the station's launch aat the end of August. "This station is a reflection of changing musical trends and we're thrilled that Winnipeg is leading the charge for the Pop Alternative revolution."
CURVE 94.3 is featuring an eclectic playlist, featuring artists as diverse as Daft Punk, Nirvana, P!nk, Coldplay, Kanye West, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Katy Perry, Pearl Jam, Jay-Z, Foo Fighters, Amy Winehouse, Notorious B.I.G., Weezer, No Doubt, Hedley and more.
The Pop Alternative format is a result of extensive audience research and consultation with music fans, programmers describe.
Winnipeggers told CHUM Radio they wanted a station that played cutting-edge contemporary music without the bubble gum pop or hard rock. Out of that research, CURVE 94.3 was born - a station that will have wide appeal, especially among the target audience of adults aged 25 - 40.
The Pop Alternative format has been trademarked across North America by CHUM Radio.
CHUM Radio is a division of CTVglobemedia, Canada's premier multimedia company with ownership of CTV, Canada's #1 television network, and The Globe and Mail, Canada's #1 national newspaper.
