Geoff Theobald, one of Vancouver's first TV directors passed away last Thursday August 21. He was 74. Geoff was an avid performer from an early age acting with the White Rock Player's Club in many productions and winning various regional and national awards. Geoff was the Director and Producer for many of CHAN TV's early shows like Windfall, Tides & Trails, Planet Pals and more. He went on to direct Hollywood Squares, The Stan Kann Show, Celebrity Revue and others for various production firms. Geoff was a partner in Adams Ad, a freelance writer and creator of Alex Trebeck's first game show, Pitfall. Geoff will be remembered this Thursday at 2:00 with a Service of Remembrance at Hollyburn Funeral Home on Marine Dr. in West Vancouver.
In my early days of broadcasting I worked on a Geoff Theobald commercial and a cooking series Geoff directed that John Barton hosted. I remember Geoff as fun and good natured and a talented director. Sorry to hear about his passing. You don't see the types of TV shows produced locally like his kind anymore. It the passing of an era. I'm sure Geoff would have a good laugh about it.
