Vancouver Canadians have announced the induction of nine local media members into their newly unveiled Vancouver Canadians Broadcast and Journalist Hall of Fame, set to open for viewing this Friday at Nat Bailey Stadium.

The Hall of Fame will pay tribute to the many local media members who have dedicated their time and effort toward local baseball, both professional and amateur. The charter members will be known as the ‘Starting Nine’, and include three people you can hear on News1130: Sports Director Garry Raible, afternoon news anchor Jim Bennie, and Dr. Sport, Greg Douglas.

Other inductees include Clancy Loranger (journalist), Lyndon Little (journalist), Jim Robson (broadcaster), Pat Karl (broadcaster), Jerry Landa (broadcaster) and Barry McDonald (broadcaster)

A panel of local baseball observers, including the Vancouver Canadians ownership group, selected the first nine inductees. They'll be honoured a pre-game ceremony at 6:30 pm on Friday at Nat Bailey Stadium.

Congratulations to these local scribes and radio guys...reporting on the C's has been a thankless task for many years. Sure, it's nice to go out and watch a game when the weather is nice and the beer is cold; but guys like Lyndon Little, Jim Robson, Clancy Loranger and many others were there (and continue to be there) regardless of weather or any other conditions. How about those night games in April that felt like January? Or those rain-interrupted weekend double-headers? And the fact that, even when we had a Triple-A team in town, not all that many sports fans were really paying close attention. A tip of the baseball cap to these media heroes for their efforts in keeping awareness of pro baseball in Vancouver as high as possible. This recognition is well deserved.
