According to NorthWest Broadcasters http://www.NWBroadcasters.com and the FCC, Newport Television has filed an application to move KVOS-DT 35 to a site just north of Granite Falls, 2 counties away in Snohomish County, from it's current home on Mt. Constitution in Whatcom County.
The coverage at this new site looks like will cover Seattle, Everett, Bremerton, and most of Tacoma easilly, while still serving it's COL in Bellingham, and all the way to the border.
Sounds like one more move that could pave the way for a switch to a Telemundo or Telefutura affiliate, or a spanish independent.
The headline doesn`t match the news story. KVOS is NOT moving out of Bellingham; however its high-def transmitter is being relocated to better cover an area as far south as Seattle & Tacoma.
The DT letters apply only to the high-definition (digital) signal, which is transmitted on channel 35. As everybody knows, KVOS transmits its analog signal on Channel 12. At least until next February!
If KVOS did essentially become a Seattle station, it would be a return to its roots, of sorts. If you go to Wikipedia and look up KVOS-TV, it states that the "VOS" in the old KVOS radio stood for "Voice of Seattle."
I grew up in northeast Seattle in the 1960s and 1970s and could occasionally watch Channel 12 if I turned our rotating exterior antenna the correct way. It was fun to watch the commercials for Canadian products. It also allowed me to watch some of the CBS programs that KIRO-TV, for whatever reason, chose not to carry.
KVOS has a long history of serving northwest Washington and the Vancouver, B.C., market, and it would be sad to see that end.

Kessler's Voice of Seattle, according to Richardson's fine book Puget Sounds. It's a shame a similar book was never written for Vancouver.
KVOS turning into a Telemundo affiliate would be great.
I cant wait to see the nightly newscast with all the hot Latino women News Anchors and the leg shots. Saw this in LA a while ago and couldn't believe it.
What might be considered sexist in the US looks like it's required content in Mexico.
KVOS TV is not moving. IF they were given approval for moving a transmitter, it would extend the coverage not move it. Should a company not try to reach more people? Isn't that the business of every media, to reach more people?
It may be fine for KVOS if they expand their signal to Seattle, but like I once said, if they do flip to Spanish, then the cable companies in southwest BC might as well drop the station from its lineups because there are too few Spanish-speaking people living in that region, compared with Seattle and area.
