Have been listening to Newcap's XL103 online for a few weeks.  This week...drove to C-Town and was thoroughlly blown away by their lack of quality processing.  An average that runs at least 3 out of 5 ... I'd hear a Jingle (strong) into a VERY WEAK intro that you could barely hear.

Why is the processing so much better on the WEB stream than it is for their bread & butter product?

Other than borrowing the name...didn't feel THAT much like it was a CKXL resurrection; but that's not the fault of the station.  It's just that 103.1 FM is doing radio in this decade and that pretty much is a recipe for sucking all the excitement out of the presentation!!  They're doing a nice job, but it just helps remind me how much different "foreground" radio stations were thirty years ago vs. the sweeper...bland liner...jingle...sweeper....programming is today.

Their online streams are processed? I complained earlier about the fact that someone didn't set the levels right on many stations' streams (so they were hard clipping at the peaks), and also how there was insufficient bitrate, so they switched to a flash-based solution, but at the same time the streams are just right off the board and not processed. (This lack of processing applies to...CKKY, CHLW, CKDQ, CKSQ, CIBQ, CKGY, CFXE/CFXJ/CFXH, CFOK, CKBA...ok, just about everything.)

If only it was, then I wouldn't have to buy my own comp/exp/agc/gate/limiter devices and set them up before feeding low-power FM transmitters here! (But by now I have everything at a steady 0dB. No dynamic range is great!)
