Is he also not the operations manager for Astral Calgary? That would carry a pretty hefty salary with it. Who would pay him similar coin up here?

getting off the sinking ship

Do you think they are really a sinking ship? Vibe has climbed to the top in that market and Cjay has be able to maintain their 7ish share with all the new stations cropping up? Although Stu is very GOOD at seeing the future ... perhaps he senses a "fall from grace" ... interesting! Very interesting! Can't wait to see how this rumor pans out.

Marty's going to put his feet up and enjoy himself by the end of the year. Astral is moving Myers up to Edmonchuk to run the show.

I thought Zim was the operations manager for the entire Edmonton Astral set-up? How will this affect him?

Zim was recently bumped up to National PD: Astral Rock.  I'm sure he's got his hands full running around the country, might need Stu in the building to keep things rolling on the homefront.

                            Marty Forbes to retire

Official Hicks on Six: Astral Media Radio (The Bear, EZ Rock, The Team) regional vice-president and good guy Marty Forbes will be retiring as of the end of the year, after 17 years with the stations.

Not sure who'll fill Marty's shoes as the "godfather" for all things radio in our town, but Marty plans on hanging around when not warming up in Phoenix.

Astral has named Marty's successor, Astral's Calgary operations manager Stewart Meyers.

From what I gather, he was let go over at KRock and just keeping his fingers in the industry doing an occasional shift at The Bear until something came up somewhere.  With Winnipeg/Edmonton experience under his belt I could see him being a short-list candidate for the opening at CJAY92, but that really depends on who/what Astral would be looking for to fill that slot.

I'd like to see Ben Jeffery have a crack at the PD gig. He's been the APD for ever.

I'll bet that Ben would want the gig. I've known Ben for years and he is one of the most stand up, calm and collected guys I've ever met. He works well under pressure and likely would welcome the challenge. However it might have been wise for him to have moved to a station where he could cut his programming chops and then try for the gig.
