I wonder what they meant by, " doing things a little bit differently ", are they trying to do all what they can to outst CHEK?

quote]

Likely meant doing things differently then the last incarnation of their morning program. As in simpler with less resources

I'm amazed at the outpouring of grief over the firing considering that no one here has ever said word 1 about the outstanding, award-winning, amazing, can-cure-cancer quality of BT Vancouver... before now.  It seems PSR folks are always willing to get on side with anyone who gets fired... no matter how small the ratings are.

Not saying I didn't like Dave and Simi... all I'm saying is that

a)  PSR seems to well up with support for ANYONE who gets canned.  That kind of blind support really makes it tough to separate the wheat from the chaff.  (I can sing it for you since it's a familiar song... "They got fired?  It's all management's fault!  Why?  Because managers are ALWAYS at fault.  Just ask Red!")
b)  The ratings were low.  Television is a business, and Rogers is in it to win it.  Their business decision (which isn't a half baked one) is that if it's not working, change it.  Fair ball... it's their decision to make.

Again, Dave and Simi are real pros and will land somewhere and do very well... but I can't fault Rogers for making a decision to fix a broken morning show.

Yes and people like this guy would do well to remember that what goes around will come around - you won't be feeling the same way when it happens to you mate!

So, here's a question for the smarty-pants on this board...how do you win at morning TV?  What will it take to unseat the Global morning news...which, in my opinion, is INCREDIBLY weak.

I'm surprised they don't simulcast Larry & Willy, to help Jack's position in the market.

City's picture is weaker compared to the others, and their studio has always looked like Community TV.

I agree with you Fred, the Global offering is very weak, but you could pick up Lynn and Lumpy and move the entire package over to any other station and it will still pull in dismal numbers against whatever Global offers up. City screwed up on this one IMO, Dave and SImi only needed more time to get their numbers up, if anybody thinks you can unseat the juggernaut that is Global in just a few short years with ANYTHING is just plain wrong. Success will take the same that made Global what it is....sameness and time, time for folks to get used to you being there every morning, every week, every month, every year.

Sorry, reply number 37 wasn't worth going back for.

Traffic reports on TV in the morning are stupid in my opinion.   I've never understood having traffic on TV.  Nobody has a TV in their car, and by the time you get out the door, into car, and head out, the problem's over.

Complete and utter filler.  The view from the helicopter is nice, especially that Kaitlyn Herbst.

I have to side with Rogers on this one.  ya the show content wasn't bad but seriously, look at the picture of them in the first post of this thread.  they are not the most "photogenic" two.  they look like bible study members getting ready to say a prayer.  theyr' rating may never improve much

In the era of high def television appearance matters more than ever.  For the most part, appearance don't matter in radio as most of the public just sees some highly edited pics on the website.  it's not a mystery in the building that old Brad P couldn't bring his radio magic into television and you can see why.

Nira Arora from the Beat will get the get  gig .  This is the chance she's always wanted to get into TV and a great way out of the sinking Kid Carson show.  She's got the looks and the style....and her hubby doesn't have to live with her wife's daily sex talk on the show....

just remember that before MTV, music mattered most, and musicians could be ugly and successful.  After MTV, its  much harder for musicians to be successful without good looks.  Listening to some of the crap on the radio these days, I'd say that all that ofter matters is looks (think Pussycat Dolls)....

Congratulations to Open Mike's sense of "openness" and his grasp of sharing opinions on forums like these. Calling opposing opinions "idiotic posts" and keeping your "big ugly mug" shut and throwing in an "stfu" shows real class and maturity.

IMHO there was no chemistry on BT between these "outstanding broadcasters" but then again I also fail to see how Global's morning show attracts the numbers it does because this chemistry is just as lacking between Lynn & Steve. My hunch is people turn off the TV after Global's 11PM newscast and when they turn it back on in the morning there's stiff Lynn and bumbling Steve.

Let's face it folks, Vancouver just doesn't have the kind of personalities on morning TV that some major cities are blessed with. My morning habits have returned to intelligent commercial free  radio on CBC. And before you grace my opinions with a mature rebuttal, Open Mike, let me beat you to the punch and state I have absolute no connection of any sort to our Public Broadcaster.

Hey Lurker fill your boots.  If this forum is meant for nameless , faceless posters to bash other's even when they are down then go to it Mr. Class & Mature.  I just happen to believe it is unnecessary and really in poor taste.  Didn't your mother ever say, "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all?"    But then again this is one of those forums of nameless/faceless people , myself included , who can go log on and write whatever they want about someone else without even being challenged.  If you get off on being the arm chair critic and comment on even a person's looks then it says a lot about the sort of person you are.
