Anybody else out there as mystified as me about what passes for news in this market?
I like to catch the TV news on a daily basis and I usually flip around to catch what everybody's got, what they're leading with etc.
But what in the name of flyin Jesus is with this little cat found in the grease bin???
There the poor little thing was, Friday night, being rescued and nursed back to health.
Fine…I'm glad the kitty's OK…. bad on the creep who threw him in the bin…..story over?
Not on your Tender Vittels, Sylvester!!
There it was again, Saturday, noon, on Global, CHEK had it that night, Global ran it again at six.
Sunday rolls by and we get yet another round of kitty in the grease bin on both stations.
This afternoon capped it. Global B.C., Noon News, second story, (After a lead story about dogs) Randene Neill, the self-appointed guardian angel to all things furry, goes again with…..mini-Morris in the grease bin !!!
Arrrgh!!
I mean, aren't the Olympics on?
Didn't the province just hand our top civil servant obscene raises? Why not stake out the Bentley dealership and wait for one of them to stroll in and ask a few questions?
Nope, we gotta have that 'friggin' cat in the grease bin again!
Watch the movie, Anchorman, I laughed when every news story they ran had an animal angle.
Did anyone ELSE catch the fashion show on the Global Morning News around 7:10am today? What the HELL are two so-called journalists doing at Canada Place providing colour commentary on a parade of models?? Did Grace Ke maybe sleep in and they couldn't do their "talking head" thing, so they had to FILL? How 'bout Steve and Lynn taking tap dance lessons or making hemp clothing? Or maybe Steve can bring the baby to work....or do a piece on Tony Parson's dog!!!
Despite everything that happened over the weekend Olympics, hundred's dead in Georgia, The Dark Knight made another 26 million, the cat story was the only thing our receptionist talked about when I popped by to say hello. Four legs and fur stories seem to be important to many out there in radio and tv land.
Local local local...who cares if internationally there's fighting in Russia! If there's a cookie bake sale happening at the local community center we'd better cover it because it's local! LOL. Okay in all seriousness I know we have to cover local news but it needs to be just that ....NEWS!
As corny as it all sounds, human nature always has a spot for animals. Look at all the $$$ that come in quite fast when a dog or cat is harmed, and how slow it takes to send someone to California for emergency surgery when they're destitute. The public sucks it right up, and want to know what happened to the cat - it's brilliant! And it's human nature.
It must be working... CTV dropped their local Canada AM, CITY dumped thier breakfast morning team, Global morning is a juggernaut. Plus the viewers know that the civil service pay raises are regularly mired in that greasy slime so it's not news I guess.
