The 95 Crave situation is much different. In that siutation Z95 had The Beat come along and take the Top 40 position in the market which Z had previously been the sole owner of. They decided to panic and do the god awful Crave thing which was a huge mistake, and now with Eric Samuels gone and Brad Phillips as GM I am sure it will be fixed.
I guess I was a little vague in my comparison...I was thinking the initial flip from Z-95 to Crave, where, essentially the station that emerged was Z-95 in a new dress.
I don't get it. The station sounds just as bad as it did a week ago. Why don't they get some staff that sounds good. New, fresh, exciting!!!!!!!Anything that might be entertaining. Terry Evans sucks. Melissa has the most nasal voice, can't listen. I agree that Phil is good, and so is Diesel. What about Kirk, he's frickin' hilarious. They could do so much better. Repackaged crap is what they are. Too bad, but they're ratings will show that noboby they aren't going to work.

SENTIMENTAL JOURNEY
If it's broken, you keep tweaking until it's fixed.
K-Rock has gone full circle.
For the station's 30th anniversary, it's gone back to its K-97 moniker, a name still used by listeners for what was once the top rock station in town.
Today's it's "heritage" all the way.
The music is classic rock with a vengeance.
The Terry Evans, "Laverne and Shirley" morning show is kaput after one year.
Melissa Wright returns to her old stompin' ground, hosting the midday show.
Karen Kay goes back to CFCW news.
Terry stays on the morning show, where he's been since 1999, other than the two years he was off truckin'. Terry has K-97 pedigree as well, hosting the mid-morning show from 1987 to 1992. (Terry was at the Bear from 1992 to 1997.)
Rob Berg goes back to the afternoon-drive.
Relative newcomer Mike Diesel becomes the K-97 kid, holding down his evening show. Diesel looks like a keeper. Other than Mike, just like the old days!
* Station manager Randy Lemay would love to see a return to K-97 ratings. In 1991, K-97 had twice as many listeners than closest rivals (in those days) CISN and CFRN combined.
During K-Rock's best days, 2002 to 2004, it was the second or third most-listened-to station in town. Lately it had sunk to a bottom-feeding 10th.
* Advertisers will watch with interest to see how K-97's sister station, reformatted from country Big Earl to pop classic Capital FM, does in the upcoming summer ratings. Big Earl was a good country station, but just couldn't peel listeners off CISN-FM. Big Earl morning hosts Greg Shannon and Tera Lee are now reunited, on mornings at Red Deer's country CKGY.
* Capital FM is looking for a "name" morning show host, but our sources say it won't be former Cool 880's Chuck Chandler.
Yup, no one kisses Terry Evans ass like Phil Aubrey. What a crappy morning show!
That's really nice to say! Phil is always bugging Terry about being old and grouchy, and furthermore they've only been working together for like two weeks...seems a little early to have such an angry opinion.
The K97 ship is finally starting to turn things around. Personally, I think the jocks on there are terrific and working at becoming better. I really don't think it's fair how you can just easily write off people on radio. No one comments on our jobs like we comment about radio people's jobs. Give them a chance guys! The music is better than ever and progressively getting even more terrific day by day. It'll take more than a day or a couple weeks for K97 to be at the top again but there slowly on their way there.

I agree that you have to give the morning show time to find it's legs. I haven't heard it but two weeks isn't enough time to pass judgement. It can't be worse than Terry with the two girls. As far as music being better and better, from what little I've heard, it seems to be the same old, same old. Fans of that genre are happy with that though. I don't see them back on top, the 4-5 share they've had the last couple of books is about the best they can hope for. It won't get worse though, just that same. Newcap's best bet for success is to throw everything at Capital.
As I said previously, it seemed the station had lost some focus and they were playing too much 90's rock (Metallica/RHCP/Pearl Jam etc.)
I disagree. I'd say it was the gradual but noticable shift towards playing all David Wilcox all the time. If they just get a couple songs by other people in there they'll be well on their way.
