Did you guys all catch Kevin Lowe's long-awaited rebuttal to the full year of Brian Burke's insults and jabs in the media? Lowe pretty much kicks his butt in an interview with the team1260 here in Edmonton. TSN ran the story that night. It's a beautiful thing.

Some of the gems here include:

"Where do I begin? He's a moron, first of all. Secondly, he really believes that any news for the NHL is good news. Thirdly, he loves the limelight and I don't think anyone in hockey will dispute that. Lastly, he's in a pathetic hockey market where they can't get on any page of the newspaper let alone the front page of the sports, so any of this stuff carries on."

"He's an underachieving wanna-be in terms of success in the NHL. He won a Stanley Cup? Great. I've won six Stanley Cups, you want to count rings? Who cares, it's just a little pathetic that he carries on."

"Here's a fact - he left Dave Nonis nothing in Vancouver. Nothing. He destroyed that team. If it wasn't for Nonis' incredible deals - to con Mike Keenan to get Luongo in Vancouver - that team was taking a nose dive two years ago."

"Anaheim has decent players - Corey Perry is a hell of a player. What I really want to say about his bickering about parity and the salary cap is if you're unhappy about them, then trade him our way, we'll be glad to have him."

What do you guys think about this? I think it's good that Lowe confronted him finally, albeit through the media, and hopefully this will die down now.

It was a classic rant, but it was interesting that so much of what he says in the rant was pretty much bang-on.

I love that!!

Being in Edmonton and a huge Oilers fan I don't always agree with Lowe but I must applaud him for this....

It will be interesting to see if and when Burke has anything to say back.

There is no WAY this will start to die down.  I would expect Burke to launch into his own attack in a couple days.

I'll chime in as a Canucks' fan. I've been a die hard fan since the days of Petri Skriko, Tanti, Snepsts, etc. Brian Burke is an irish-man, Lawyer from Boston. He always faced the media in Vancouver with fire and passion. I was totally defending Burke through the beginning of this Lowe-Burke tirade, not now. Back on draft day when there was no hockey, but the hope of something bright for the NHL. Kids, realizing their dreams. TSN ran an interview with Burke, and , the attitude was still there. Incredible. Come on Burke, put it aside for just one day.
I am NOT an Oilers' fan, but Kevin Lowe was an incredibly dependable player all those years, and he is faced with being in a market that doesn't have the glitz and sparkle of some other markets. We've seen the residual effect of that. Now he's taking his gritty, hard nose, get it done attitude to the top of the Oilers' team structure. Great, problem is, this whole thing has become so personal, it's not even about hockey anymore. Lowe made a move last year that exposed a huge hole in the CBA, so what? And, once it was done, Burke became Nostradomus? He predicted the inflated prices? It was going to happen, some other GM would've done it anyway. Rant's done. Remember, Brian Burke's working for an owner who doesn't have a great media record the past couple of months. Maybe he won't say anything after all.

I am happy that Kevin finally had a retort for Burke's comments of last year.  While he certainly was the originator of many great lines while in Vancouver, his schtick is growing old and reeks of the desperation of someone who needs to keep his huge ego fed.  Kevin was bang-on in his describing how Burke left the cupboard bare for Nonis.  The feud will continue until Burke takes the Toronto job and then he will have all of the Leaf nation media to play with.

I love that he pointed out how he ran Vancouver into the ground and then inherited a good team when he went to Anaheim. Way to stick it to him Lowe.

I generally don't mind Burke, apart from when we see this bitter, angry side of him when he's hating on Kevin Lowe. ..unfortunately, that's all he does now.

Come on Tommy...Lowe kept his trap shut for almost a full year, while Burkie's gums never stopped flappin'

Maybe that's the difference between Anaheim and Edmonton: In Anaheim you HAVE to do something to stay in the local media, whereas in Edmonton, you're the main ticket.

What do you guys think about Gary Bettman only speaking up when Lowe finally fired back? I'd like to know where that little weasel was for the last 12 months when Burke was running his mouth...

So now Burke wants the NHL to investigate Lowe's offhand comment that if Anaheim didn't want to sign Corey Perry they should just trade him to the Oilers.  Burke claims that is "tampering."  C'mon Burke - go back to running your own team into the ground and drum up publicity for yourself some other way. And Lowe - get your team into the playoffs.

Probably dealing with a REAL crisis, like keeping Nashville from moving to Hamilton...
