As both a tribute and a bid for ratings, NBC is rebroadcasting the first episode of "Saturday Night Live," hosted by George Carlin.
The comedian, who died June 22 of heart failure, was "gracious, fearless and, most important of all, funny," said "SNL" creator Lorne Michaels.
Carlin performed three separate monologues that night in 1975 and helped introduce John Belushi, Chevy Chase, Dan Aykroyd, Jane Curtin, Garrett Morris, Larraine Newman and Gilda Radner. The show also included a performance from comedian Andy Kaufman and featured musical guests Janis Ian and Billy Preston. Not a bad lineup. The show airs Saturday (Tonight) at 11:30 p.m. on KING/5.
Ahhhh....deja vu ...... to be 19 again ...... the best years of SNL. Wonder when Burt Suggarman will convince the nets to bring back re-runs of the "Midnight Special", where all the "greats" appeared in what is now historic video. Burt's trying to flog discs of the show, but it would be nice to have today's generation appreciate how it all started ... kinda.
