EDMONTON - Premier Ed Stelmach spent the better part of a week in Washington and got zero U.S. television coverage. But his sympathetic comment about a hockey theme scored him exposure Tuesday on the Colbert Report.
Satirical news anchor Stephen Colbert was showing a news clip about CBC's loss of Hockey Night in Canada's signature tune. As the reporter said, "It has politicians fuming," up came Stelmach at a legislature news conference last week.
"This is ridiculous... uh... you know..." the premier said, putting a hand to his chest.
Colbert was impressed: "Strong words from a Canadian!"
The comic host then proceeded to dance at his desk to the "dunt-da-Dunt-da-dunt" theme, waving a U.S. flag, eating a hot dog and brandishing a handgun.Stelmach aides were laughing about the clip this morning.
