VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - The Vancouver Canucks have announced that forward Trevor Linden will make a 'special announcement' at General Motors Place tomorrow morning, amidst reports that Linden will announce his retirement.

Linden was given a send-off befitting a retiring great after the final game of the season, but refused to confirm if he wound hang up his skates for good. Numerous reports now say Linden will make it official Wednesday morning.

Tomorrow is also the 20th anniversary of Linden's draft.

The news conference will be carried live at 11 a.m. PT on Sportsnet Pacific. He'll be on TEAM1040 between 3 and 4pm.

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - Vancouver city council has passed a motion that will see the mayor proclaim 'Trevor Linden' day, the day the Canucks retire his jersey number.

Council also directed its street naming committee to find a way to recognize the former Canucks captain, who officially announced his retirement yesterday.

Linden puts Norton through the glass.

Linden is a class act. I'd love to see him stay with the Canucks as part of their brand, they need his consistancy to bridge these changing times. I'm sure he'll land on his feet and I wish him the best of luck.

I sent an email to the Mayor regarding Linden yesterday. I was replied the following.

Thank you for your email which has been circulated for information to the Mayor, Council, City Manager, Chief and Coordinator, both of External Relations & Protocol, and forwarded to the attention of the Manager of Community Relations to the Mayor.

Hello:

Thanks for your email.  Today, Mayor Sullivan and City Council passed the following motion. Trevor certainly deserves recognition for his contributions to the city!

Mayor & City Council Recognize Trevor Linden.

Vancouver (June 12, 2008 - Mayor Sam Sullivan and City Council today formally recognized Trevor Linden's contribution to Vancouver.

Councillors Kim Capri and Suzanne Anton introduced a motion resolving that:

Mayor Sullivan proclaim Trevor Linden Day later this year - on a date to be confirmed with the Vancouver Canucks.

The City of Vancouver and the Mayor's Office work with the Vancouver Canucks to identify other ways to celebrate Trevor Linden. The City of Vancouver's Street Naming Committee be encouraged to consider ways to recognize

Trevor Linden's legacy.
