MONTREAL - Apple's iPhone is finally coming to Canada on July 11 with Rogers Wireless (RCI.B) as its exclusive carrier.
Rogers and Apple says more information about price and rate plans for the much-sought after touch-screen phone will be announced at a later date.
Apple CEO Steve Jobs has announced that an eight-gigabyte model is to sell for US$199.
Jobs says the upgraded iPhone has a faster Internet connection and GPS capabilities.
Analysts have said Apple needed to upgrade the iPhone's Internet connection to work over so-called 3G, or third-generation, wireless networks.

i'm glad this thread is already started cause i'm a bit irked at rogers... apple has all the info at apple.ca. there's even a link from that page to rogers - which everyone knew was going to be a carrier (the other being fido). go to rogers and there's a "something big" shadow promo screen. no, fido has nothing on their page, yet.

what makes me upset is rogers not respecting (our) the consumers' intelligence. not when every news source in canada will have an article in some form or another tomorrow about this. this is the campaign that could've run a month or two ago.

remember the whole point is the plan is to be cheaper than usual.  Thats what happened in other markets...

AT&T is the US has an All you can eat data plan for the iPhone 3G for $30.  Then a minimum $40 voice plan.  So at the cheapest for them would be $70/month.  And they by far have the most attractive plans for the 1st gen iphone out of the 6 countries when it was first released.  Somehow, I doubt Rogers/Fido will have anything close to being as attractive on July 11th.  Uncle Ted just doesn't seem that nice and willing to drop data rates that much when corporations are willing to pay through the nose for their ridiculous 5 cents/KB currently.
