Anybody know anything about the new voice at CFAX--Al Sebring? He sounds great, especially doing sports. And what's happened to Steve Duffy--haven't heard him on air in the mornings for a couple of weeks.
Al Seibring was the anchor newsvoice on SUN-FM [ Formetrly CKAY, Duncan] fot a number of great years. He has a solid background of news in major markets.Al has the ability to write news stories that bite and tell the story..CFAX have landed a fine talent. Often when I needed a headline for a canadian Achievers story I would call him, he always delivered..Dick Drew Canadian Achievers.
I've had the pleasure of working with Al for several years. It was a blast! The "class act" description of him is dead on.
Damn, it's nice to see some people writing nice things about me!! Even if they can't spell my name right! And even if the posters include rogues like you, TJ.
Yeah.. it's a temporary gig. Duffy underwent quadruple bypass surgery a few weeks back. He's home recuperating. (I actually worked with Steve at the old CKDA back in the early 80's.) For those who miss Duffy (and that would include me), he should be back sometime late July to mid-August, at which time I'll probably get to sleep in again.
But it's kinda nice to be working at "Victoria's News Authority". I was saying to my wife the other day that it was always something I wanted to do before I retired. Not that I consider this to be the "pinnacle of my career" - and I intend no disrespect to CFAX when I say that - but it's kinda cool to be working alongside a guy like Joe Easingwood, whom I grew up listening to on the old CJVI back in the '60's. He doesn't know it - I still haven't told him - but he was actually somewhat instrumental in my decision to make a career out of this crazy business when I was in my teens.
I'm just curious .. but is this the same "Al Siebring" who also worked at Edmonton's Authoritative News Voice back in the 80's .. before heading south of the 49th .. to teach some prospective members of our future society. If I remember correctly .. that is the correct spelling of our former colleague up on the 22nd floor of the Royal Lepage bldg. ..and if it is not .. then please know that there are two of you on this planet. .....
it's good to see that the colour of your hair has matched your advance in years .. and that you still are in the vocation that you enjoyed even from all the driving you did; especially venturing daily in from the bitter cold of Westlock.
Not sure I'd go so far as to call Al a "class act" (kidding of course). We did mornings together when we flipped to Sun FM in Duncan. A fine man indeed and great newscaster. I enjoyed my time spent with Al and it's always nice to see broadcasters get a chance to work their dream jobs. Way to go AL...and I believe you still owe me a month's rent.
By the way Al, your rent is all paid up...wouldn't want anyone to think otherwise. I wish you well at CFAX, and if you ever make it to Edmonton look me up. It's always good to see old friends.
Keep up the good work Al, we in Duncan who listen to you on Sun FM are glad you are working in Victoria doing what you obviously love to do. Come back soon. Bruce Payne
