I'v heard that  Kid was trying to flip his show out to Rogers out east.  After competing offers from CHUM the whole show had something like their salary trippled to keep it on 94.5.

My source tells me that Kid himself is tipping 7 figures with remotes.  The top man at CTV personally flew out from the east to make the deal with the show.  Funny thing staff on 2nd thought CTV was visiting to fire Neil G.

That's gotta be double what Larry & Willy make.

Anyone know of a radio morning show can top the Kid Carson show?

and who said there isn't money to be made in radio...

the number I've heard floated around as total budget for air talent (from morning show to the weekend board op) ideally comes in at about 10% of revenue. Top end stations in Alberta are pulling in 10 million in revenue, so I doubt you'd see numbers like that here. Perhaps it is more common in markets like Toronto and Montreal and Vancouver to see numbers closer to 7 figures, and certainly in the US as well.

Good for Kid, and for the rest of the team because they all got bumped up too.  I wouldn't be surprised if one of the conditions for them staying in Vancouver was by saying an adios to the PD.

The rest of the building isn't necessarily doing cartwheels for the BEAT, and I wouldn't be surprised if there were some job casualties as a result of the increased "overhead".

That's awesome for Kid and the whole team. Just out of curiousity - other than Nira Arora, are there any female visible minority morning co-hosts (or hosts) in Western Canadian radio? And I'm not speaking of newsies - full, recognized and promoted team members. Anyone know or can comment?

I heard it was.

Now Curtis S. is just a puppet, he can't do much now that Kid is the Rockstar drinking king.....

7 figures?  What, over 5 years?  Maybe. Better check your source again.  Who starts these ridiculous rumours anyway?

Over 5 years sounds more like it.  I'm sure Terry and Tera are looking forward to contract renewal with the CTV folks, after all, they've been near the top a hell of a lot longer that Kid and his gang.  Plus pull in a more lucrative demo.

Yeah, 7 figures for one guy?  That seems pretty ridiculous.  I mean top sports guy Jim Hughson gets about 500-grand a year or something close and he's national.

I have to admit when I read this post I thought it sounded a lot out of wack.  Regardless, when people in the business start telling me what they make or what someone else makes and it sounds to good to be true I am always skeptical.  Show me three consecutive paystubs and I'l believe you

I'm sure the remotes are what's putting him into the 7 figure range.

Don't know the market that well but I can't see anyone in Canada making that kind of coin. Unless of course he absolutely owns the market.

well i didn't believe it at first either but you gotta look at it from the owner & managment point of view:

you just paid $50,000,000 for a station with sales tracking 40% over last year in a market worth about $1,500,000 a share point.

do you risk loosing a few share points in your vancouver market at at time that Crave is gearing up, and then risk loosing another few points in your Toronto market to a competitor?

in the big picture you could easily loose at least 5 share points.  do the math and you can understand why CTV would fly out to Vancouver to cut someone like that a check. not to mention what Amy and Nira make.....

Good for the KID if he can get the big bucks. The best move he ever made was moving over to The Beat from Z evenings. The Kid is the show. Nira and Amy could be replaced by anybody. I don't assume those two should be in a position to get big money. Now is this 700k divided between the three? I thought Nira would have gotten the boot long time ago. Amy is just a filler but thanks to THE KID those two are riding in the wind. Very powerful if you can ask for the PD to be gased. Good for The Kid, now you can get yourself a few more hats send your mom off on a big trip. Party like a rock star dude say hi to TOMMY LEE.  I hope he was able to get a 5 year deal pays 3.5 million 59k a month.

Larry & Willy make 500k each. They signed off on a 10 year deal.

There is no way a Canadian radio morning show host is going to pull in 7 figures. Unless he does a remote every minute he's not on the air. This has all the accuracy of Wilt Chamberlain's claim about how many women he slept with.

Small market, medium market... hell even major market jocks... THIS is what you have to understand!!

Vancouver is a $120 Million radio market. That means every share point is worth approx. $1.2 Million in revenue. What does that mean to a jock? Here's a couple examples:

Fred and Kathy, reports were around 500K per year to bring them back. Sound absourd? Well if their show could have taken Clear up 2 share points overall that represents 2.4 million additional revenue to the company, or almost 500% return on their investment. Whether he did his show from home or Hawaii, as long as he brought the numbers - what did Rogers care?

Now the Kid Carson example... IF Kid leaves the Beat and takes his show with him, does the Beat's overall share drop? Let's say over a year people start to explore other alternatives and they listen less, taking Beat from a 9 to a 7... that's a 2.4 million drop in revenue. So now paying him 7 figures to stay maybe isn't that unrealistic when you consider how much money they could potentially lose by him leaving.

Not saying for sure that's his deal but it's not totally out of the question.

Well TV Times, hate to burst your bubble, but I know of a morning jock in Toronto, with very high numbers, who just turned down a seven figure amount.
As "karma kazi" wrote, do the math.  If the company wants to keep those high numbers, a seven figure amount is just a small amount in the overall sales figures.

It was reported in the media and apparently confirmed that Terri Dimonte was offered I believe it was 400k a year in Calgary...a market half the size of Vancouver, 7 figures is entirely possible.

I guess this is why Kid has his own butler? If CTV is really paying that much money...they are either really smart or extremely stupid. Either way Kid wins.

"Say Kid - Can I work for you?"

exactly.  Kid knows what his value is.  Whatever CTV pays him, is a fraction of what he generates for the company.  Maybe the Beat morning show bills 8 million a year?  so then 1 million dollar pay day would be in order.

A jock in Toronto turned down 7 figures. Sure he did? Unless I actually see the figures on the check or contract I agree with TV Times. 7 figures is a little much. Just because a show bills big bucks doesn't mean they're going to start throwing a big chunk at the host. He'll do well, but 7 figures? Give your heads a shake. Frosty Forst had big numbers and CKNW billed big amounts during his heyday, but he wasn't yanking in 7 figures.

Also, look at the flipside. The Toronto station that wanted him was a direct competitior to CHUM-FM. Any extra ratings (revenues) that station would have had with him would have come at CTV's expense.

Isn't it really all about the music these days? From what I'm seeing, no matter how huge the jock is, you play one or two pieces of shit and you get tuned out fast. Bye bye big book, bye bye big salaried on-air person.
