He calls it terrific news for the City of Moose Jaw.
All smiles here at the radio station today as Golden West Broadcasting's Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice President Lyndon Friesen joined us for the launch of our new FM station.
Mix 103.9 - 103.9 FM features local news and information and the best rock, pop and AC songs from the past 25 years along with the biggest multi-format hits of today.
"Economic conditions in Saskatchewan right now are just at an all time terrific position. We base our decisions more on what is important for the community and certainly with the economy doing what its doing, with the kind of activity happening in Moose Jaw, we think this just aligns perfectly to provide an even greater service for the community."
I doubt there will be a url...there won't be a website for it. It's a GWB station..."We're not in the business of making websites" is a line once heard within those walls, so money is not spent on station websites, for there is no money in it. What they do create, are those "community portals" such as Moosejawonline.com, Portageonline.com, Pembinavalleyonline.com because they can use those portals to sell advertising and make even more money. I found it interesting that Lyndon's comments focused on "the economy of Moose Jaw is so strong right now..." which is really a GWB thing. We feel that we can really make more money in this community and we're poised to do it. How much more money can we make?
It's not about the listeners, it's about the advertisers.
I hold no grudges, and they are a very successful company so they're obviously doing something right. They just have a very different take on "radio" and what it is. For them, radio is just a means of selling advertising. How much advertising can we sell? How much money can we make? It has little to NOTHING to do with the listener and what the listener wants. It's just one method of doing things, and I'm not saying it's right or it's wrong...it's just their way. Each to their own...
Oh yes, by no means did I literally mean "no websites!" but take those sites (all of which are virtually identical) and compare them to the money-making "...Online.com" portals or, just as an example, the.......wired963.com website launched in S'Toon, recently. It's not even close. Again, it's fine...it's just the way of GWB. No sense spending a lot of money on station websites because they don't make us any money. The Community Portals do, so spend your money there.
hey your mix jet contest sounds like just the thing i need to win..so i am in on that one.. i am siriusly t.p.'s greatest fan.. ever since 78' so i am gonna win that.. just thought i would give you the heads up on that.. lori and mark (joeys)
i guess i am an ''oldie'' here (76' and beyond) as far as a C.H.A.B fan. I learnt all the great old 70's tunes from your radio station. As a kid growing up in caronport, i had a small wireless i carried around with me , even while riding my horse in the middle of now where.. i got to listen to ''humble howard.. and the bionic rippley, Bob Price went to our school. He started with you while he was in gr. 12, i believe.. with the ''news''. and they were GOOD!!! I remember the c'h'a'b' ''sun -spots'' and the chance to win ''$100.00'' if you had one on your car. You guys were down town main street at that time. You guys influenced my love for music, and now i am one to be reckon with as far as ''music trivia goes. lol. anyways, i just feel compeled to tell you that ''mix'' rates right up there with my other fav. ''the jack'' keep it up.. it's good to return HOME.. to a good Moose Jaw station.. with all the great tunes you once again supply... THANK YOU !!!!
CHAB did have lots of great names that started their careers in the Jaw...but today...there are very few announcers at the GWB building...but lots of salespeople! The Mix plays a lot of the same music as CHAB, which makes me wonder about the future of 800...Talk radio and/or Religion?
Bob Price - Left CHAB for Calgary and Vancouver. He's been doing the morning news on CHNL Radio in Kamloops for several years. CHAB was a launching point for several personalities in the now defunct Moffat chain.
