A little birdy told me the Fan 960 are set to announce a renewal of their broadcast partnership with the Calgary Flames Tommorrow (tuesday). Can anyone confirm?

They announced that it was a five-year deal.  Good on all involved.  Not sure if there was any doubt, where else were the Flames going to go in Calgary?  Surely not back to QR.

When 66-CFR had The Flames, it was a heck of a party. Nice tie-in to the calls, as well: Calgary Flames Radio. They milked it 'till the listeners cried "Uncle". (Typical Rawlco overkill.)

I've heard rumblings that the Fan wanted out of the deal a few years back (this is before their 2004 run). The Flames did look at going back to QR. I think any PD and GM of a male oriented station would have to give due dilligance to look into landing a power performer like the Flames rights are.

Glad The Fan kept the rights but who really cares what station the broadcasts are on as long as "Peter The Great" is doing the play by play!!! All sports is a good fit because you can tune in at almost any time of the day and hear hockey talk. Love the morning show (as long as Mike isn't singing). Keep up the good work 960!!!

I agree about Peter.  But when listening to the Fan, I get to thinking that hockey is the only sport they know (unless its outside programming).  Tons of other sports/teams with things going on in the city.  True, none as big as the Flames.  But........

I'd spend about 80 to 90 percent of segment times talking about hockey at this time of year. I tuned in this morning and was quite put off by a 20 minute segment on Ultimate Fighting the day after the Flames biggest win of the season. I guess they can't please everyone. One man's "who cares?" is another man's pasion. Especially with sports.
