Rogers' Rock 105.3 Launches in Medicine Hat

Rogers Broadcasting today launched FM radio station Rock 105.3 in Medicine Hat, Alberta. The station is the first
rock station in the local market and will feature artists such as Red Hot Chili Peppers, Nickelback, ACDC and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.

In order to accelerate the launch of this newly licensed station, Rock 105.3 will initially broadcast from a "boom box" and trailer from the Trans Canada Highway. A permanent facility will be secured in the future. Rogers has appointed Rogers' broadcasting executive and Alberta native, Tony Marsh, as General Manager.

"We're excited to bring the rock radio format into the Medicine Hat market," said Tony Marsh, general manager of Rock 105.3. "We believe our station will offer listeners an incredible alternative to what is currently available today." The station will launch without announcers on its first day.

With the addition of Rock 105.3, Rogers now has 12 radio stations in Alberta and 52 stations across the country.

A station such as this has been needed in Medicine Hat for a very very long time.  Those folks on the hill in Redcliff were just getting to cozy in their "we're the only game in town" mentality.  True CHAT & MY96 served Southern Alberta extremely well over the years, however the arrogance of management towards employees, the listeners & the business communities in Medicine Hat & surrounding certainly will be a bonus for both Rock 105.3 & the NEW Lounge coming soon.

The Boom Box is too cool   Hopefully the new Roger's Crew will be able to bring some of the joy, excitement & FUN back to radio in Southern Alberta.

Best of luck to the crew at Rogers.  Should be interesting to see how JP does with competition in town.  Looking at Lethbridge's last book it could be a shaky next few months (or years) for them.

Does anyone have the launch audio available?  (I'm assuming they launched by the way that piece was worded)
