How do they approve Astals acquizition of Standards assets in the same markets, yet deny Pattison the same?

Because Pattison would have owned 3 FM in the same market, when the law says they can only own 2 FM

I can see the Penticton station being denied as that signal clearly goes into Kelowna, but I am surprised that Vernon was also denied.  Does that signal go into Kelowna?

The penticton market is full of bean counter stations... It's time for an indie company to emerge and file an application...

Wonder if Vista will attempt to grab Vernon.

I think Vista would l;ikely want to grab any markets that were once occupied by OSG. However, KISS in Vernon might have too hefty an asking price for them.

I agree with Bob, although since Vista intervened against the Pattison purchase wouldn't it raise eyebrows with the CRTC if they went in and bought them right after?

I think it would, if the reason Vista cited in their intervention matched the reason the CRTC declined Pattison.
Otherwise, it's all just business, isn't it?
