I just don't get it.

Just who the heck is Steve Darling's promo person.   SATAN !?!
This is twice now ,this talentless hack is on the cover of TV Week.

I am not in the industry, so its not as if I am jealous of this guy. But there is something really wrong with the local "airwaves" when this clown is a featured personality.

All you industry people on this site must have some insite as to the real reason he got that Global Gig...

I have no problem with Steve Darling, he's personable and does the job.

I remember when he first started on Global, If I'm not mistaken, he was doing weekends, then he moved into weekdays doing Sports! From there right to Global Mornings

In a town where the only "celebrities" are tv news faces, they each get 2-4 covers a year to make up the 52 TV Week cycle.

It's just how it is.

Until we start up Radio Week Magazine.

Steve Darling isn't talentless. He must have a talent for getting decent gigs. I mean, he got a 'news' job, with virtually NO news background. Zilch. Go figure. Listening to him trying to sound authoritative is priceless. Sad, but priceless. My theory is they were looking for a harmless buffoon to sit beside that whiny Lynn, someone who would actually make her appear to have a thread of assertiveness and an inkling of television news cred. My question is - why isn't Robin, the weekend anchor, the permanent co-host with a proper male 'news' person ?

I have no problem with Steve or anybody else going on the cover, my problem is the sickeningly sweet, abosultely vapid articles on local TV people we always see from TV Week. They always have those ridiculously staged photos of local celebs decorating their homes for Christmas, or walking dog/cat/iguana, whatever. I know they aren't going to dish dirt, Jill Krop isn't exactly Brittney Spears, but can they give a little bit of interesting info than the usual fare?
My only real problem with Steve's cover is the fact his dogs nails are painted pink.

How can anyone question that reliable source?  For Favourite Local Weekend Radio Show, I just voted for CKNW News Talk 980 WARREN ON THE WEEKEND.

I say, good for you Steve Darling!

Anyone who goes from being a stunt guy on a country station, to a morning newscaster on a station like Global, deserves a pat on the back.

Sure, some of the stuff that comes out of his mouth qualifies as "buffoon-like", but...the poor bastard pulls in a cool 40K to get up at 3:30 in the morning to hang out with Lynn Collier...he should be allowed to belch out the odd assenine and totally irrelevant statement!

Well put. Although it's frightening to see how many people actually lap it up.

Steve is the dictionary definition of the term "big galoot". He is perfect for local televsion morning news. May he stay in that gig forever.
Mike Chisolm gives us the gory details. Steve's unintentional teddy bear nature keeps us from hanging ourselves after we hear them.

I too like the job Steve does on the Global News.  Real people, not like the Ken and Barbie's you find on station's like KTLA.  Geez, so far positive comments for the most part go figure, all the character assassins on this site must be taking the day off
