Fudged numbers. Potential audience numbers close to 300 000 and the book returns were what? 1766? Even if they were all females, terrestrial radio's dead. The fact we still think about this flawed and ancient ratings system is proof positive. The rest of the proof is in the number of professionals who try to be professional, hard working members of a community and then get laughed out of a bank when they're applying for a mortgage.
How many women 25-54 would even consider marriage to a 10-15 year veteran of a profession who's bringin' home 26 grand a year this close to 2010? How many of those women would work for that kind of money when it's less than many (most) management jobs in the city/town?  Those jobs don't have a manager 'telling' them they have to offer their time for free (it's part of your job? 7 Days a week to volunteer? B.S.) Time is money, even in radio. Ask the sales staff. It usually comes in 30 second or 1 minute increments on that side of things.
Radio's ratings and the experience are both great for students who haven't had to default on their loans yet. For an experienced, pro? Time is telling the story.

Sounds like someone who spent 10-15 years and never was able to move up in the industry and make the big money and now has a chip on his shoulder.

I'll admit that starting and small market wages are terrible, there's no doubt about that, but there are plenty of people who have made very nice livings, yes even including owning their own homes with cheques signed by Corus, Rogers, Chum/CTV, Pattison etc.

Are we ready to rock?

Radio station hopeful hits streets to test our rock 'n' roll temperature

Does Chilliwack rock?

"We are looking forward to creating a radio renaissance in Chilliwack by restoring the values of local radio as well as bring much needed musical diversity," said Jason Mann, vice-president of Vista via e-mail.

By garnering letters of support, due in the hands of the CRTC by Jan. 23, Vista hopes to bolster their application.

"If you have one or two letters of support that's one thing," said Vista Radio president Terry Coles. "But if you have 1,000 that's a much larger indication the community embraces your application. Obviously we are looking to get as much support as we can."

"Vista's vice-president Jason Mann wanted to submit their application at the same time as the renewal hearing into the Rogers station in Chilliwack, Star FM, because the CRTC had received complaints over a lack of local coverage"

Hold On....was there a fundamental shift in Power at the mighty Vista...I though Paul Mann was the Vice President? or did Mr. Henderson get it wrong? Has Paul Mann faded into the background as did Bryan Edwards?...interesting

I believe they're all technically VPs. It may be a case of their business model linking titles to salary. Incremental pay scale down the chain of command and all that. I don't know this to be true - but it's something a fair few of them try.

You can read CJVR'S Ken Singer pitch for Kelowna after the first presentation. I'm sure he will be working with the same nuts (rock) bolts for Chilliwak.

Ken Singer VP CJVR, has used this one before in his other application, pitching the aboriginal newsie employee. I think it's creative, don't agree that "ethnicity" should be put in front of the CRTC.

I assume CJVR uses this card to somehow make them look good with extra bonus points in front of the CRTC. I may add that it did get them a freq back east.

I truly believe ROCK is the format for Chilliwak. One could have a lot of fun with the new C-FUN.

You are a genius.  Or he was.  It worked.

here it is for Victoria. $16.39/hour or $2294.60 a month based on the 35 hour week.  Working in tourism for a union would pay you that to start (maybe a tiny bit less, but more hours), an entry level clerk for the government pays a bit more and a junior salary in radio in Victoria floats around there too, maybe less.

http://www.canada.com/victoria.....42-9d6e-534c012d446d

this make believe couple only pays $1,300 a month rent for a three bedroom which is impressive... I was hoping the article would say where I could live for that.  The couple could get a mortgage in Victoria for nice two bedroom for close to that depending if they have anything to put down.

Now a condo in Chilliwack appears on my very basic search to be $100,000+ less then you'd pay to live in Victoria.  According to Condo.com here are the averages.

Market Info
Chilliwack, BC
Avg Price: $216,045
Med Price: $191,609
Avg $/SqFt: $195.41

Victoria, BC
Avg Price: $355,493
Med Price: $308,193
Avg $/SqFt: $363.80

so if you could make $2,200 a monthish... you should be doing alright in the Valley b/c the $16/hr is based on Victoria prices.

Rent will be... $600-$1,000 for a one bedroom (maybe less)
drink and party the rest away, live like a radio star.  sounds like a decent life.

the old guys will complain that they can't raise their kids on that, and true... but they shouldn't be applying for the  announcer gig, they should be the boss or jocking in the city.

Actually Flame, the only reaction I'd have to working for $16/hr in the Valley is that when I left the radio biz in the Valley 5 years ago, I was making JUST OVER $16/hr.  That would speak volumes about the radio wage not keeping pace with the annual increase in the cost of living.  And that would be important, even to the young bucks entering the biz that cherish their beer money!

Maybe less than $600/month rent in the Valley??  I can't imagine what kind of rat infested hole THAT would be, maybe a room at the Empress Hotel (not to be confused with the Victoria version, the one in Chilliwack is little better than the Cecil).

Oh, and I did the math on going to the "bigs" back before deciding to change careers and AGAIN the increase in wage fell well SHORT of the spike in the cost of living.

Stock up on the Mac and Cheese and become familiar with the address for the food bank.  Welcome to radio in Chilliwack...

Now with this FM station coming to the "WACK". Do you think they might have the Chilliwack Briuns on this station? Instead of the stuiped setup they have with putting the games on 88.1fm.
